BARE Pure Beats
PROJECT TITLE:
Logo Design Project
CLIENT:
Business major wanting a logo for their headphone product.
DURATION:
Approximately 2-3 weeks to complete.
OBJECTIVE:
Create a logo from scratch using pictures.
BACKGROUND:
Business majors and design majors have to work together and, by necessity, will continue to work together in the future, as theirs is a symbiotic relationship.
RESEARCH:
A competitive analysis was completed collecting existing logos from other headphone companies. Research was done on various headphone companies that had similar imagery. Two of the biggest companies that had either a similar logo or were popular brands were Skull Candy and Beats by Dr. Dre. The design that the client chose was skulls; therefore, the challenge was to ensure the design was not too similar to that used by Skull Candy.
STRATEGY:
My approach to the project was to sketch different skulls in different poses. I put over the sketches tracing paper to sketch the skulls. By taking away details, I simplified the drawing to look like a pen illustration. It was simplified three times in total to get the finished product of Pure Beats.
DESIGN SOLUTION:
Cyan, magenta and yellow colors were used to offset each skull so that it appeared to have visual motion. That motion made gives the impression of sound waves and music. Pure Beats became the brand name of the design.
CHALLENGES:
The challenges to this design were numerous. Many headphone companies use skulls in their logo, so careful thought was required to ensure Pure Beats has a logo that is unique.
